Winter Session Details
The Cavalier Wrestling Club's (CWC) Winter Session is for a range of ages and experience, from beginner to more advanced. Below is practice information for each age level.
Pee Wee (5-7 years old)
November 17, 2015 – February 23, 2016
Tuesdays, 6:15-7:15 pm
Charlottesville High School, 1400 Melbourne Road
Pee Wee practices are for wrestlers age 5-7 or 8, depending upon size and ability level, and the name of the game is FUN. Mixing basic technique with some live wrestling and games, our coaches work hard to make sure that these practices are the perfect introduction to the sport for your young wrestler. The winter practices also culminate with a super-fun intra-squad match that will be held in the UVA Wrestling Room, so that your youngster will get a chance to feel like their one of the UVA Cavaliers! (There will also be some occasional opportunities for the Pee Wee wrestlers to join the Elementary and Middle School wrestlers for competitions with other wrestling clubs in the area. We will inform parents about those opportunities as the season progresses.)
Elementary & Middle School (8 years and older)
November 16, 2015 – February 25, 2016
Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00-7:30 pm
UVA Wrestling Room-Onesty Hall, 300 Massie Rd.
Elementary and Middle School practices are designed for ages 8 and up. Last year we enjoyed a tremendous amount of success with our three-night-a-week a la carte practice schedule. We will continue with that format this year. Monday's practices will focus on basic techniques and will be geared toward beginners (and experienced wrestlers who want to refine some basic moves). Tuesday's practices will concentrate on advanced techniques for our more experienced wrestlers. Thursday nights will be open to everyone and will be reserved for live wrestling and competition. Wrestlers just starting out (1-2 years experience) are encouraged to attend practices on Mondays and Thursdays. Wrestlers with slightly more experience (3+ years) are encouraged to come to practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. (We also highly encourage any wrestler who wishes to take advantage of all three nights of practice to do so.) Wrestlers will be paired each night according to age, weight and ability level, and our coaches will work hard to ensure that each wrestler gets the most out of each practice. We also look forward to offering our wrestlers a chance to compete against other clubs in the area. We plan to distribute a schedule of these competitions during the first week of practice.
High School: There will be no Sunday Elite practices this winter. High school wrestlers interested in practicing with the CWC this winter should contact Josh Walker at [email protected].
